Dr. Peter Hanser-Strecker

Am 22. Januar 2026 verstarb Dr. Peter Hanser-Strecker im Alter von 83 Jahren im Kreise seiner Familie in Wiesbaden. Über ein halbes Jahrhundert prägte er an der Spitze von Schott Music das Musikleben und transformierte den Verlag in ein global agierendes Medienunternehmen.

Hierzu Prof. Lydia Grün, Präsidentin des Deutschen Musikrats: „Der Deutsche Musikrat trauert um sein Ehrenmitglied Dr. Peter Hanser-Strecker. Sein Tod ist ein schwerer Verlust für das Musikleben. Der Verlag Schott Music, von ihm mit Weitsicht, Strategie und großer unternehmerischer Kraft geführt, wurde zu einem wichtigen Verstärker und Multiplikator gerade für die Musik der Gegenwart etwa von György Ligeti, Krzysztof Penderecki und Jörg Widmann. Zugleich dienen die monumentalen, historisch-kritischen Gesamtausgaben von Schott Music heute als wichtige Dokumentationen lebendigen Kulturerbes in Europa. In der Arbeit wie im Wesen von Peter Hanser-Strecker zeigten sich eine große Offenheit für Neues und ein klarer Wertekompass. Auch in der Übernahme zahlreicher Ehrenämter und der Gründung mehrerer Stiftungen spiegelten sich seine zutiefst humanistischen Werte und Ziele. Die von ihm 2024 gegründete gemeinnützige Strecker-Stiftung unterstützt derzeit zwei Publikationsprojekte des Deutschen Musikrats zu den Themen Demokratie und Musikalische Bildung. Wir sind Dr. Peter Hanser-Strecker sehr dankbar für sein inspirierendes und beeindruckendes Lebenswerk und werden sein Andenken in Ehren halten.“

Peter Hanser-Strecker, 1942 in München geboren, studierte Musik und Musikwissenschaft sowie Jura. Im Alter von 26 Jahren trat er als Leiter der Rechtsabteilung in den Schott-Verlag ein. 1974 wurde er in die Geschäftsführung des Verlages berufen, deren Vorsitz er 1983 übernahm. 2014 wurde er für seine Leistungen mit dem Großen Verdienstkreuz des Verdienstordens der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ausgezeichnet.

Musicians can sing or play in the ensembles of the German Music Council, the Federal Youth Orchestra, the Federal Jazz Orchestra and the Federal Youth Choir, and take part in competitions. With four other projects in the area of promotion, the German Music Council supports young, highly talented musicians, conductors, composers and interpreters of contemporary music as well as pop musicians on their way to a professional musical life and builds a bridge between musicians, organizers and the public. The German Music Council is the sponsor of the competitions for children and young people: Jugend musiziert and Jugend jazzt, the competitions for professional musicians: the German Music Competition, the German Conducting Award (formerly the German Conducting Prize) and the German Choral Conducting Award, as well as the competitions for amateur musicians: theGerman Choir Competition and the German Orchestra Competition.

The German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat e. V.) is the mouthpiece and initiator of music policy issues for its members.

Promoting young musicians in the ensemblesof the German Music Council also includes performing on stage in front of an audience. The project leaders are happy to accept requests for engagements. The German Music Competition concert promotion program arranges approximately 200 concerts a year for concert organizers and concert series.
