Music is present in almost all areas of life—as a shared experience, a form of expression, and a unifying force. More than a fifth of people in Germany actively play music, demonstrating that music is a central part of social life and, together with all the institutions involved and the music industry, forms its own ecosystem. The foundation for this is musical education. It teaches far more than artistic skills: musical education strengthens democratic awareness, diversity, transcultural understanding, and social bonds. It promotes expressive and perceptive abilities, creativity, and participation—including in the digital space.
With this congress, the German Music Council is committed to raising awareness of music education in the music ecosystem and recognizing its potential for cohesion, inclusion, integration, democracy, transformation, and personal development.

Online Pre-Events
In the run-up to the conference, five online events were held that addressed specific topics in music education through a combination of keynote presentations, panel discussions, and exchanges with guests. These events gathered firsthand accounts and insights that will be incorporated into the conference. The goal was to strengthen networking among different areas of music education and, building on that, to highlight the connections within the field of music education during the conference.
