A celebration of the sound of tolerance and diversity
The German Music Council—on whose initiative “Music Day” has been celebrated annually since 2009—and the Fête de la Musique network have been joining forces since 2024: Since then, Fête de la Musique has served as the joint, nationwide umbrella organization for the event. Since then, the Fête de la Musique Germany network has also been a member of the German Music Council.

FÊTE COMMUNITY 2027: Training to Promote More Participation in Amateur Music
Fête de la Musique Germany is launching FÊTE COMMUNITY 2027, a new continuing education program for people involved in amateur music. We are seeking 50 individuals from across Germany who wish to expand their musical practice, learn about community music methods, and develop new ways to encourage people to make music together.
The continuing education program is offered in two courses in Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony. Applications are accepted nationwide, regardless of where you live or work. Participation is free of charge and is funded by the Amateur Music Fund of the Federal Music Association for Choirs and Orchestras. Applications will be accepted until December 10, 2026.
Fête de la Musique 2026 was accompanied by a joint campaign organized by the German Music Council, the Federal Music Association for Choirs and Orchestras, the Federal Network for Civic Engagement, and Fête de la Musique Germany under the hashtag #GemeinsamZukunftGestalten.
The campaign showed that music isn’t just created on stage—it’s created by people who get involved. That’s why the focus wasn’t on the big acts or professional productions, but on the many people behind the scenes. After all, the Fête de la Musique takes place every year across the country thanks to the dedication of thousands of people: volunteers, initiatives, clubs, neighborhoods, musicians, and local organizers who contribute their time, energy, and creativity.

Fête de la Musique is a celebration of vibrant diversity. It brings music in all its forms directly to the people—and in doing so, reveals the cultural richness of amateur music in particular, as well as the power of music to foster connections and unity. Music is not merely the icing on the cake of everyday life, but rather a foundation for individual personal development and social cohesion. Culture and music, in their own way, promote democratic values and democratic participation.“

Fête de la Musique demonstrates just how much power lies in volunteerism. People contribute their ideas, take on responsibility, and actively help shape cultural life in their cities and communities. This sense of self-efficacy is particularly important in times of social challenges. Those who get involved in the Fête de la Musique are not only helping to create a music festival but are also strengthening local cultural life.“
