Der Pop-Nachwuchs erobert die Bühne: Beim PopCamp Festival spielten zehn Bands vor Fans und Fachpublikum

Dieser Pop-Nachwuchs ist bereit für die große Bühne: Zehn hochtalentierte Bands präsentierten sich am Wochenende beim PopCamp Festival im Columbia Theater Berlin. Musikalisch versiert, mit berührenden Songtexten, mitreißenden Sounds und beeindruckender Bühnenperformance begeisterten die Nachwuchsbands rund 500 Gäste, darunter viele Brancheninsider. Für Bands wie Paul Weber (aus Köln), Karo Lynn (Leipzig), Leopold (Berlin) und Engin (Mannheim) geht mit diesem Konzert die gemeinsame Förderzeit im PopCamp, dem Meisterkurs für Populäre Musik des Deutschen Musikrates, zu Ende. Der neue Förderjahrgang startet im Herbst.

„Das war pure Emotion. Zwei Jahrgänge des PopCamps konnten endlich, nach zwei Jahren pandemiebedingter Einschränkungen, einander begegnen und der Öffentlichkeit zeigen, was sie gelernt haben. Das PopCamp fördert vor allen Dingen die individuellen Stärken jeder einzelnen Band, aber der Austausch untereinander und das Spielen vor Publikum ist genauso wichtig. Wir sind stolz auf das, was diese Bands in den letzten Jahren erreicht haben. Der gemeinsame Abschluss im Columbia Theater war für uns alle ein besonders großes Geschenk“, sagt der künstlerische Leiter des PopCamp, Jens Eckhoff.

Aus dem PopCamp sind Bands hervorgegangen wie Jeremias, Jupiter Jones oder Cyminology. Das PopCamp ist das Band-Förderprogramm des Deutschen Musikrates, in dem Bands zwischen Studium und Berufseinstieg bei der Professionalisierung ihrer Karrieren unterstützt werden. Durch individuell zusammengestellte Coachings, Vermittlung von Kontakten und einem brancheninternen Austausch erhalten die Musikerinnen und Musiker im PopCamp einen Anschub für ihre Kunst.

„Das PopCamp war für mich enorm wichtig“, sagt zum Beispiel der Berliner Musiker Trille, der zum Förderjahrgang 2019 gehörte. Beim PopCamp Festival sprang er spontan für eine erkrankte Band ein und stellte sein Debüt-Album „Kapuze“ vor. „Ich hatte und habe das Gefühl mich unter Gleichgesinnten austauschen zu können, die an einem ähnlichen Punkt in ihrer kreativen Entwicklung stehen. Das PopCamp ist eine starke Gemeinschaft – gerade weil es hier nicht primär um kommerzielle Dinge geht, sondern vor allem darum, wo wir als Musikerinnen und Musiker stehen und hinwollen. Das ist etwas sehr Besonderes“.
Die neuen Jahrgänge stehen schon in den Startlöchern: Im September beginnt für fünf Bands ihre Zeit im PopCamp mit einer ersten Arbeitsphase im Musikbildungszentrum Südwestfalen in Bad Fredeburg. Mehr Informationen zum PopCamp unter www.popcamp.de.

Musicians can sing or play in the ensembles of the German Music Council, the Federal Youth Orchestra, the Federal Jazz Orchestra and the Federal Youth Choir, and take part in competitions. Promoting young musicians in the ensemblesof the German Music Council also includes performing on stage in front of an audience. The project leaders are happy to accept requests for engagements. The German Music Competition concert promotion program arranges approximately 200 concerts a year for concert organizers and concert series.
