Start der bundesweiten Musikrats-Initiative für eine freie Kultur als Puls unserer offenen Gesellschaft

„Demokratie sowieso!“

Im Vorfeld der Landtagswahlen in Sachsen-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern und Berlin im September 2026 greifen radikale Kräfte die Freiheit der Kunst gezielt an, schüren Verunsicherung, propagieren Ausgrenzung und stellen demokratische Grundwerte zunehmend infrage. Dem setzt der Deutsche Musikrat gemeinsam mit zahlreichen Partnerinnen und Partnern mit der Initiative „Demokratie sowieso!“ eine klare, positive Botschaft entgegen.

Prof. Lydia Grün, Präsidentin des Deutschen Musikrats, unterstreicht: „Wenn demokratische Werte ins Wanken geraten, müssen wir als Musikleben Haltung zeigen. Demokratie lebt von Vielfalt – und Musik macht sie hör- und erlebbar. Mit ‚Demokratie sowieso!‘ laden wir alle ein, ein sichtbares Zeichen zu setzen: für Kulturelle Vielfalt, für die Freiheit der Kunst und für eine freie Kultur als Puls unserer offenen Gesellschaft.“

Ziel von „Demokratie sowieso!“ ist es, Menschen für den Wert einer vielfältigen Kultur zu sensibilisieren und zu mobilisieren. Gerade in kulturpolitisch herausfordernden und gesellschaftlich unsicheren Zeiten setzt die Kampagne zudem ein sichtbares Zeichen der Solidarität mit Musikschaffenden, Musikinstitutionen und zivilgesellschaftlichen Akteur:innen – insbesondere in Sachsen-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern und Berlin.

Bereits zahlreiche Verbände haben sich der Kampagne angeschlossen – darunter die GVL, unisono Deutsche Musik- und Orchestervereinigung, ver.di, die Landesmusikräte Sachsen-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Thüringen und Saarland, der Verband deutscher Musikschulen, die VG Musikedition, akustika Nürnberg – Die Messe für Musik, der PRO MUSIK Verband freier Musikschaffender, die Bundesfachgruppe Musikpädagogik, die GMD- und Chefdirigent*innenkonferenz, der Deutsche Kulturrat, der Deutsche Komponist:innenverband, die Gesellschaft für Musikforschung, FREO – Freie Ensembles und Orchester in Deutschland, der Verband unabhängiger Musikunternehmer*innen und der Interessenverband Musikmanager:innen & Consultants sowie viele weitere Partnerinnen und Partner.

Der Deutsche Musikrat stellt auf www.musikrat.de/sowieso Download-Vorlagen für Social Media, Plakate, Sticker und Postkarten zur Verfügung. Material kann auch kostenfrei im Generalsekretariat des Deutschen Musikrats bestellt werden. Verbände, Institutionen und Initiativen können sich zudem mit ihrem Logo sichtbar dem Bündnis anschließen. Die Kampagne läuft vom 10. August bis Anfang Oktober 2026.

Musicians can sing or play in the ensembles of the German Music Council, the Federal Youth Orchestra, the Federal Jazz Orchestra and the Federal Youth Choir, and take part in competitions. With four other projects in the area of promotion, the German Music Council supports young, highly talented musicians, conductors, composers and interpreters of contemporary music as well as pop musicians on their way to a professional musical life and builds a bridge between musicians, organizers and the public. In addition, the German Music Information Center (miz) offers a central information point on all topics of musical life.

 

 

The German Music Council is the sponsor of the competitions for children and young people: Jugend musiziert and Jugend jazzt, the competitions for professional musicians: the German Music Competition, the German Conducting Award (formerly the German Conducting Prize) and the German Choral Conducting Award, as well as the competitions for amateur musicians: theGerman Choir Competition and the German Orchestra Competition.

The German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat e. V.) is the mouthpiece and initiator of music policy issues for its members.

Promoting young musicians in the ensemblesof the German Music Council also includes performing on stage in front of an audience. The project leaders are happy to accept requests for engagements. The German Music Competition concert promotion program arranges approximately 200 concerts a year for concert organizers and concert series.

Music educators will find concepts and working materials for music lessons at the Podium Gegenwart's educational projects. Current developments in music policy and studies can be found in the "Music Education" section, as well as specialist articles on this topic at the German Music Information Center.
