Nachhaltig in ein qualitativ hochwertiges Kulturangebot investieren: DMR rät der ARD zum Aussetzen der Beteiligung am ESC

Am vergangenen Wochenende hat Deutschland beim Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) erneut den letzten Platz belegt. Schon in den Jahren zuvor fiel die Bilanz im Schnitt eher negativ aus. Dabei gehört die Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (ARD) zu den vier wichtigsten Geldgebern des Musikwettbewerbs. Die öffentlichen Stimmen nach einer Kreativpause der Bundesrepublik beim ESC werden lauter.
Wenngleich die diesjährige Teilnahmegebühr von 473.000 Euro für ein Medienereignis in der Größenordnung relativ gering ausfällt, ist angesichts der Kosten einer Tatort-Episode von ca. 1,5 Million oder einer Übertragung von beispielsweise Spielen der Fußball-Europameisterschaft im fünfstelligen Bereich je Sendeminute zu fragen, ob gerade in Hinblick auf die sich androhenden Sparmaßnahmen im Kulturangebot des ÖRR eine Umverteilung finanzieller Mittel nicht nachhaltiger und dem Bildungsauftrag zuträglicher sei.

Hierzu Prof. Christian Höppner, Generalsekretär des Deutschen Musikrates: „Der Deutsche Musikrat rät der ARD, ihre Beteiligung am Eurovision Song Contest auszusetzen. Es braucht keine zweitklassige Show, bei der die künstlerische Qualität nur noch eine untergeordnete Rolle spielt und die sich vom ursprünglichen Gedanken des Musikwettbewerbs weitgehend entfernt hat. Die ARD sollte nicht nur dahingehend, sondern auch bezüglich anderer auf Unterhaltung fokussierter Angebote Einsparungen nutzen und diese für eine bedarfsgerechte Finanzierung der Kulturprogramme, die Verstärkung der regionalen Kulturberichterstattung und Zusammenarbeit mit den regionalen Kulturakteur*innen sowie die Sicherung der Rundfunkklangkörper verwenden.“

Musicians can sing or play in the ensembles of the German Music Council, the Federal Youth Orchestra, the Federal Jazz Orchestra and the Federal Youth Choir, and take part in competitions. The German Music Council is the sponsor of the competitions for children and young people: Jugend musiziert and Jugend jazzt, the competitions for professional musicians: the German Music Competition, the German Conducting Award (formerly the German Conducting Prize) and the German Choral Conducting Award, as well as the competitions for amateur musicians: theGerman Choir Competition and the German Orchestra Competition.

Promoting young musicians in the ensemblesof the German Music Council also includes performing on stage in front of an audience. The project leaders are happy to accept requests for engagements. The German Music Competition concert promotion program arranges approximately 200 concerts a year for concert organizers and concert series.
