Peter Stieber
Peter Stieber, born in Salzburg, studied musicology, German language and literature, and theater at the Free University and the Technical University in Berlin. He also studied singing at the Berlin Academy of Music. He worked as a freelance music journalist and, from 1982, as an editor at Süddeutscher Rundfunk Stuttgart, where he headed the art music department from 1991. From 1998 to 2012 he was Artistic Director and Managing Director of the Schwetzingen SWR Festival and Head of the classical music department of SWR Rheinland-Pfalz. He has also been a juror for the German Record Critics' Award since 1985. Peter Stieber has been President of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Music Council since 2012 and Chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Music Academy since 2018. He has long been involved with the work of the German Music Council: as a member of the Executive Committee since 2013, Chairman of the Federal Media Committee since 2015, and as a member of the council’s Strategy Commission and Federal Labor and Social Affairs Committee.
