From the House of Culture in Bonn's Südstadt district, more than 70 dedicated employees of the German Music Council organize concerts, competitions and other events throughout Germany and worldwide.

Concerts in Bonn 2024

The stage for brilliance: top young classical musicians present themselves to the audience and jury in annually changing categories. In 2024, the categories flute, oboe, horn, tenor trombone, bass trombone and guitar, among others, can be experienced in free-of-charge evaluation rounds. The highlight and finale is the prizewinners' concert in the university auditorium.

They are the future of jazz: the Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO) brings together the best young talents in Germany. Under the title "Music of the Future", the ensemble will present works by the winners of the fourth BuJazzO composition competition at the Jazzfest Bonn under the direction of Niels Klein. With great stylistic diversity and personal originality, the young composers cover many facets of contemporary jazz - from abstract up-tempo swing to groovy jazz with game show elements.

Winners of special prizes from this year's national Jugend musiziert competition and WESPE, the weekend of special prizes, will perform in the chamber music hall of the Beethoven-Haus. The program will feature outstanding performances from the various competition categories and age groups. In 2024, the categories include wind instruments, plucked instruments, bass (pop), musical, piano four to eight hands, duo: piano and a string instrument, duo art song and percussion ensemble.

PopCamp supports promising, original and innovative artists (acts, musicians, bands) on their way to a successful music career. The goal - to be able to make a living from making music - is accompanied by individual coaching and supported as required. The best students are selected by a competent jury and trained by an experienced team of lecturers at eye level. The PopCamp summer concert takes place as part of the Stadtgarten concerts. One of the three artists is Magdalena Ganter.

In summer 2024, the National Youth Orchestra will invite the World Youth Choir to join its tour for the first time. It will work with the choir on Beethoven's 9th Symphony to mark the 200th anniversary of the composer's work, which speaks of the unbridled joy and enthusiasm of youth. Maestro Tan Dun presents the young people with an "Ode to Compassion", an ode to compassion and mercy, which will be premiered as part of the summer tour. As part of the Beethovenfest and Deutsche Welle campus project, the ensembles will also be performing on Bonn's market square on the same day.

Musicians can sing or play in the ensembles of the German Music Council, the Federal Youth Orchestra, the Federal Jazz Orchestra and the Federal Youth Choir, and take part in competitions. With four other projects in the area of promotion, the German Music Council supports young, highly talented musicians, conductors, composers and interpreters of contemporary music as well as pop musicians on their way to a professional musical life and builds a bridge between musicians, organizers and the public. In addition, the German Music Information Center (miz) offers a central information point on all topics of musical life.

 

 

The German Music Council is the sponsor of the competitions for children and young people: Jugend musiziert and Jugend jazzt, the competitions for professional musicians: the German Music Competition, the German Conducting Award (formerly the German Conducting Prize) and the German Choral Conducting Award, as well as the competitions for amateur musicians: theGerman Choir Competition and the German Orchestra Competition.

Promoting young musicians in the ensemblesof the German Music Council also includes performing on stage in front of an audience. The project leaders are happy to accept requests for engagements. The German Music Competition concert promotion program arranges approximately 200 concerts a year for concert organizers and concert series.

Music educators will find concepts and working materials for music lessons at the Podium Gegenwart's educational projects. Current developments in music policy and studies can be found in the "Music Education" section, as well as specialist articles on this topic at the German Music Information Center.
